Portable Appliance Testing, commonly known as PAT testing, is the process of routinely checking electrical appliances for safety, as required by UK Health and Safety at Work legislation, in particular the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Many types of equipment require testing at regular intervals to ensure continual safety. The interval between tests depends on both the type of appliance and the environment it is used in.
