Safety First!

Well that is another Summer over!
It has been an incredibly busy month here at Skidmore Electrical. Everyone is now well rested, having been on their blissful holidays and are now raring to go, ready for the lead up to (dare we say it) … yes, Christmas!
A couple of weeks ago Paul and Lloyd attended a first aid at work training course, we would have loved to have shared some photos of their day with you, however … they completely forgot to take any photos for you all. They must have been having too much fun, practicing their bandaging skills! But rest assured they are now ready to deal with any unexpected emergencies whilst on the job.

We are almost certain you have noticed the nights rolling in now and the cooler weather creeping upon us.
We will all be watching more TV, especially now Strictly has started! We will be switching the kettle on more and our houses will be well lit on these dark nights (it’s not quite time for our ‘mini’ versions of the Blackpool illuminations just yet, we have a Christmas special coming for that topic).
We often forget our homes vital electrical infrastructure, which enables the flow of electricity, ensuring we can turn our appliances on with a flick of a switch. Our often forgotten consumer units tucked away and out of sight – along with all the cables behind our walls.
Unlike our boilers which we all tend to service annually, our switches, sockets and consumer units are most often overlooked!
Nevertheless when it comes to safety within our precious homes, each and every one of us should be thinking about an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
You may have never heard of the term EICR, but we believe understanding its importance can make a significant difference in ensuring your home is electrically safe, for both you and your cherished loved ones.

What is an EICR you ask? Well let’s delve a little deeper …
An Electrical Installation Condition Report is an assessment of your properties electrical system and installations. It’s completed by a qualified electrician and it will identify any potential issues, defects, or areas of concern that could pose safety risks to your household.

Why we believe each and every homeowner should consider an EICR;
1. Safety First – Our homes are our sanctuaries, places where we should always feel safe and secure and the primary reason for an Electrical Installation Condition Report, is to ensure this safety. Did you know, electrical faults are one of the leading causes of house fires, but regular EICRs can identify and fix issues before they become dangerous.
2. Peace of Mind – Knowing that your homes electrical system is in good condition provides peace of mind. You may live in a character property or you may be planning to install a new kitchen, an EICR will ensure everything meets current regulations and standards.
3. Preventative Maintenance: Just like many of us service our cars and boilers, regular EICRs can help to prevent issues in the future. Our electricians can identify minor faults and if found early, it could save you on expensive repairs.
4. Property Value: When selling your home, having a recent EICR can increase your properties value. It could add to your properties saleability, as it gives potential buyers peace of mind that they won’t have any nasty electrical surprises they will need to rectify.

We understand that unlike landlords, it is not a legal requirement for homeowners to have an EICR carried out every 5 years, however we highly recommend all our customers have one completed. Electrical installations like all things, can deteriorate over time, this can be due to wear and tear, environmental conditions and your usage pattern within your home.

Our electricians put your safety first in all they do! They execute EICRs with such precision, ensuring that no detail is overlooked. Rest assured, you are in safe hands with us!
If you would like any further information on EICR’s or would like to book one please give us a call on 01427 338244, we would be delighted to hear from you!
